![]() ![]() Archaeology on Naxos is scattered around the island, but the major sites are the unfinished temple of Apollo in Chora, and the temple of Demeter at Sangkri. Paros has less archaeology than Naxos, although it has a better archaeological museum. It's also not so easy to walk from one end of Naxos to the other, whereas you can walk from Paroikia to Naoussa in a morning (I've done it, there's a lovely route that I can recommend to anyone who is interested, it's a very easy walk). There are buses on Naxos as well but because of the nature of the island, there is more to do in the various villages, and you might as well have the freedom to move around. ![]() On Paros you can make do with the buses and taxis on Naxos you should ideally rent a car. Naxos, I've only spent a few vacations there over the years, most recently December 2009. I lived on Paros in 19, and have spent a fair amount of time there in other years as well. We also had huge fun painting ourselves with clay (it is supposed to have some healing properties-when it dries, you look like a blue alien from the space) near Molos. Naoussa is a charming beautiful Cycladic village and Laggeri (accessible by boat) is probably one of the best Cycladic beaches. We spent the first week of July 2006 on Paros and stayed in Naoussa. Naxos is a wonderful island, almost certainly a perfect choice for holidays full of sun, great choice of perfect beaches, as much history as you can comprehend, authentic Greek feeling, friendly people and very good food at reasonable prices. Also, we found all the places that we adore almost tourist-free: Zeus cave, the park with the two kouroses, Keramoti, Demeter's temple. There were never more than 5 or 10 people on the beaches that we love (Alyko in the western, Psili Amos in the eastern and Kalandos in the southern part of the island). Otherwise, we had a feeling that we had the island just for ourselves. Also, there was a volleyball tournament at the Agios Georgios beach which made the beach almost unusable. Paralia in Chora was very crowded after the sunset but it didn't bother us. We spent the last week of June 2009 on Naxos. They were different then, Naxos was much less touristy, but there's been a lot of tourist development since then. I know them from 25 years ago when they were my first 2 Greek Islands ever. These days both are overall as touristy and crowded as each other. The eastern half of Naxos has no public transport. Unlike Naxos where it is almost one big beach down the east coast from Naxos town, and just a few resorts/beaches elsewhere.ģ) Naxos has a mountainous interior rather than hilly Paros, and Naxos has more interesting villages.Ĥ) Paros bus services are more comprehensive covering more or less all the island resorts/beaches. However ferries between the 2 islands are frequent enough that they can almost be considered one island.Ģ) Paros has more resorts/beaches in number all around the coast though small in size. Naxos has better connections with the Smaller Cyclades/Amorgos. 1) Paros has generally the greatest variety of ferry connections to other islands. ![]()
